Robert J. Stewart 88, of Princeton, passed away at the Deaconess Midtown Hospital located in Evansville on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. Robert was born on Wednesday, November 20, 1929, in Princeton, IN to John Lewis and Delta (Martin) Stewart, both of whom precede. Robert worked for over 25 years in sales at Devoe & Reynolds Paint Company and after retiring from sales worked another 20 years in hospital security.
On June 19, 1949, in Princeton, IN he married Ruth Anita Passwater.
Robert attended the Enon General Baptist Church of Princeton. He was also a 32nd degree Mason as well as a member of the Shriners. He was the former Vice President of the National Jaycees Organization and also a member of Painting, Decorating Contractors Association (PDCA), as well as being a member of the Kiwanis club of Moline, IL. One of his favorite pastimes was to attend different sporting events with his family.
He is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Ruth Stewart of Princeton, son Jay Charles (Rebecca) Stewart of Louisville, KY, daughters Marita Ann (Dennis) Klavon of Monett, MO and Peggy Lynn Abell of Princeton, IN. Other survivors include brother Sam Stewart of Connersville, IN, sisters Luella White and Betty Jones, both of Princeton, IN, 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Sylvester, John, Roy, Orville, Larry, sister Dorothy and 1 grandchild.
The family has entrusted Doyle Funeral Home with arrangements.
