Melvin Barfield age 83 of Princeton, went to be with his Lord, on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at his home. He was born in Wheat Swamp, NC on November 8, 1931 to Micajah and Ethel Jane (Wade) Barfield. On November 15, 1952, he was married to Marilyn (Plowman) Barfield who preceded November 18, 2014.
He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean
War. After his military service he was a Golden Coral Franchise owner for many years.
He is survived by sons; Michael (Rhonda) Barfield of St. Charles, MO, Steven (Anna) Barfield of Germany, Brad (Rhonda) Barfield of Winchester, KY and Eric (Kathy) Barfield of Columbia, S.C.
Also daughters; Jane (George) Ferguson of New Bern, N.C., Joan (Marty) Alden of Princeton, IN and Diane (Gene) Houston of Marion, N.C.
Other survivors include brother, Victor (Margie) Barfield of Garner N.C, 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers; Norman, Owen, Earl & Bruce and sisters; Ellen & Velma
There will be a memorial service and celebration of life at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 12, 2015 at Bethel Memorial Church, located at 1520 S. Main St., Princeton, IN 47670, with Pastor Kevin Wilson officiating. Military honors will be given by the Local Retired Veteran’s Group. Doyle Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
